Why here

Rishikesh has three hundred yoga schools. Almost all of them are concrete buildings in the middle of Tapovan, running batches of thirty, buying food from the same wholesale market. We sit above the river with twenty students, four teachers and a garden.

that difference is the whole thing

It is easy to verify and impossible to copy without land. It is why the food is what it is, why there are only twenty of you, and why you hear birds instead of horns.

What makes it different

Three things you won't find in town

Amla (Indian gooseberry) ripening on the tree at the farm

Food from the garden

The most common complaint in Rishikesh teacher training reviews is the food — repetitive, oily, and by week three nobody wants to eat it. We grow most of what you eat, and the menu follows what's ready rather than a weekly loop.

Twenty students, never more

Small enough that we know how your shoulder moves by the second week, and can correct it. Because we own the farm we profit at eight — schools paying rent in town need twenty-five, so intimacy is a promise they cannot make.

The founder teaches

Most schools here book freelance trainers by the month and students find out who's teaching them on arrival. Our faculty is named on the site, and Geeta leads every teacher training herself.

What you leave with

Able to teach, not just to practise

01

A full 200 hours

Structured to the Yoga Alliance educational categories — technique, methodology, anatomy, philosophy and practicum.

02

Confidence to lead a room

You teach from week two. By the end you can plan and hold a class, not just perform one.

03

Anatomy you actually use

Enough understanding of the spine, pelvis and shoulder to keep your future students safe.

04

A daily practice that holds

Twenty-four days of early mornings builds something that survives going home.

05

Real breath work

Pranayama taught progressively rather than as a five-minute add-on at the end of class.

06

Nineteen other people

Small batches turn into a group that stays in touch. That matters more than anyone expects.

What you'll study

Nine disciplines, two hundred hours

Contact hours — the time you actually spend in the room, not an aspirational total. Structured to the Yoga Alliance educational categories.

Registered Yoga School RYS 200 — Yoga Alliance

Certification

Yoga Alliance registered school

Junegiri Yoga Schoolis a Registered Yoga School (RYS-200) with Yoga Alliance. Complete the 200-hour training and you receive our certificate and become eligible to register as an RYT-200 — the credential most studios ask for internationally.

Registering as an RYT is your own optional, paid membership with Yoga Alliance rather than something that happens automatically on graduation. We explain how that works, and what it is actually worth, on the certification page.

How certification works

The farm

A school small enough to teach properly.

That order matters. The vegetables in your thali were grown a two-minute walk from where you practise, and the kitchen cooks to what came in that morning.

It is a lived-in place rather than a resort — the dogs wander through, the horses are in the field below, and it is genuinely quiet in a way that Tapovan is not.

Your teacher

Geeta founded the school and leads every teacher training.

Geeta founded Junegiri and leads the 200-hour teacher training. She is registered with Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT 500 — a credential requiring more than two thousand logged teaching hours over at least four years, and one you can verify yourself in their public directory.

She teaches hatha and vinyasa with an emphasis on understanding why a shape works rather than copying it — and her philosophy sessions are the ones graduates mention most.

What's here

Facilities, honestly described

A quiet guesthouse in the hills, not a resort. Everything below is real — we'd rather under-promise than have you arrive disappointed.

Rooms & food

Open-air practice

We practise outside whenever the weather allows, on flat ground above the fields. Sheltered space for monsoon and winter mornings.

Organic kitchen garden

Most of what you eat is grown a two-minute walk from where you practise. You're welcome in the garden any time.

Rooms with hot water

Triple, twin and private, all with attached bathrooms. Simple and clean — a farm guesthouse, not a hotel.

Wi-Fi that works

Good enough to video-call home. Not good enough to stream 4K, and honestly that's fine for a month.

Laundry included

Done a couple of times a week. Bring four or five days of practice clothes.

Free station pickup

From Rishikesh or Haridwar. Your first journey in India shouldn't be alone with a stranger outside a station.

Ayurvedic treatments

One massage included with the teacher training; more available on the property by arrangement.

Library and study space

Somewhere quiet to read that isn't your room, for the self-study hours.

Who comes here

Twenty strangers, then not

Most of our students travel from Europe, the UK, Australia and North America, alongside people from across India. A majority arrive on their own.

  • Small batches turn into groups that stay in touch — it matters more than anyone expects going in.
  • Most of our students are women travelling alone. Female staff live on site and we collect you from the station.
  • Ages have ranged from early twenties to late fifties, and the mix is usually the best part.
  • No experience of India required. We'll tell you what you need to know before you land.

Six in the morning

The bit no brochure gets right

Practice starts before the light does. By the time the sun clears the far ridge you have been on the mat an hour, and the valley below is still under cloud. This is the view from the terrace, filmed on a phone, because that is what everyone here actually reaches for.

  • Two practices a day, the first at six and the second in the late afternoon.
  • Philosophy sits in the middle of the day, when the heat makes anything else unwise.
  • Evenings are yours. Most people walk, read, or sit out on the veranda.

Before you ask

The questions everyone has

All questions
What visa do I need?

India's e-Tourist visa explicitly permits short-duration yoga programmes, and it is what most of our students travel on. Rules change and depend on your nationality, so please confirm with your nearest Indian embassy or the official e-visa portal before booking flights. We'll issue an admission letter for your application if you need one — just ask.

What is the food like?

Three sattvic vegetarian meals a day, mostly grown here. The menu changes with what's ready in the garden rather than repeating on a weekly loop. This is the thing former students mention most, and it's why we grow as much of it as we can rather than buying in from town.

Do I need to be flexible or advanced?

No. You need a regular practice of six months or so and the willingness to work. Flexibility is not a prerequisite for teaching yoga — understanding is. Some of the best teachers we've trained could not touch their toes on day one.

How many students will be in my batch?

Twenty at most. That is the ceiling we hold to — large enough for a proper practicum group with plenty of partners to work with, small enough that the teaching stays personal and nobody becomes a face at the back.

Is Rishikesh safe for a woman travelling alone?

Broadly yes, and a majority of our students are women travelling alone. Rishikesh is a pilgrimage town — alcohol and meat are banned, and it's calmer than most Indian cities. The usual sense applies: don't walk alone on unlit roads late, be firm with anyone pushy, and use registered taxis. On the farm you have lockable rooms, lit paths, female staff on site and someone reachable at any hour. We'll collect you from the station so your first journey isn't alone with a stranger.

Come and see

Not sure whether it's right for you?

Then don't book yet. Message Geeta and ask the awkward questions first — whether you're flexible enough, whether it's safe travelling alone, what happens if you get ill. We would rather talk you out of the wrong course than take your deposit.

  • Maximum 20 students on every training
  • Four named teachers, not a rotating cast
  • Led by an E-RYT 500 registered with Yoga Alliance

Ready to change how you practise?

Tell us what you’re looking for and we’ll write back properly — not a brochure. Holding a place costs nothing and there is no deposit.

Which course are you interested in?
When are you hoping to come?
How much have you practised?

No deposit and no payment at this stage. We reply within 24 hours.
