SHORT ANSWER
UK students travel on India's e-Tourist visa, most safely the one-year multiple-entry at about US$40. A 200-hour certificate is recognised for individual registration with Yoga Alliance Professionals, though the British Wheel of Yoga runs its own separate qualification route. Will a 200-hour from India be recognised in the United Kingdom?
A 200-hour from India is enough to teach in most UK studios and to get insured, usually via individual registration with Yoga Alliance Professionals or the US Yoga Alliance. It is not a BWY qualification and will not be treated as one — BWY's own route is a separate, longer commitment. If a specific studio or leisure chain has told you it requires BWY, an Indian 200-hour will not satisfy that, and you should confirm before booking anything.
Yoga Alliance Professionals (YAP)
The UK body, entirely separate from the US Yoga Alliance despite the similar name. Most UK studios and insurers accept it, and it registers individual teachers trained abroad.
British Wheel of Yoga (BWY)
The long-established UK body, recognised by Sport England. BWY runs its own multi-year qualification and does not treat a 200-hour as equivalent to it.

The one-year multiple-entry e-Tourist visa. It costs slightly more than the 30-day version and removes the problem described below.

What catches UK students out
Two things specific to a British passport. First, a 30-day visa against a 24-day course leaves almost no margin — one delayed flight or a few days in Delhi either side and you are close to overstaying, which is why the one-year version is worth the extra fifteen dollars. Second, India moved to reciprocal pricing in late 2025, so the five-year visa costs UK nationals roughly ten times what it costs most other Europeans. Do not buy it assuming it is a bargain.

From Delhi it is a 45-minute flight to Dehradun or about six hours by road. Most students take the morning flight and are at the farm by lunchtime.
Best months to come from the United Kingdom
September to November and February to April. These avoid both the monsoon and the coldest mornings, and they sit outside UK school holidays, so flights are cheaper.

We price in US dollars, so the sterling cost moves with the exchange rate. Pay by card and your bank will convert; ask us before sending an international transfer, because the fees are usually worse.

Three things that apply only to UK students
Insurance is the practical reason to register
UK teaching insurance — Balens and Westminster are the two most commonly used by yoga teachers — generally asks for evidence of a recognised 200-hour and current registration with a body such as YAP. That, rather than any studio's preference, is usually what forces the decision to register.
The reciprocal fee change caught people out in 2026
Until late 2025 the five-year e-visa was cheap for everyone. India now prices it to mirror what each country charges Indian citizens, and UK passports sit at the expensive end. Anyone repeating older advice about a bargain five-year visa is working from stale information.
DBS checks if you intend to teach children or in schools
Nothing about an Indian training covers this, and it is not something we can help with. If your plan involves teaching in UK schools or to under-18s you will need an enhanced DBS check arranged at home, entirely separately from any yoga qualification.
