Will a 200-hour from India be recognised in the United States?
A 200-hour from an Indian school registered with Yoga Alliance qualifies you to register as RYT-200, and American studios treat that identically to a US-earned 200-hour. The registration is separate from the certificate — you apply and pay the annual fee yourself after graduating. One thing to check carefully for any Indian school, including ours: the school must actually hold RYS status at the time you train, or the hours do not count towards RYT registration.

What catches US students out
Americans routinely combine the training with two or three weeks of travel, and that is exactly where a 30-day visa runs out. If you intend to see anything beyond Rishikesh, buy the one-year version. Note also that India prices the five-year visa reciprocally, so a US passport pays roughly four times the one-year fee for it — worth it only if you genuinely expect to return. Apply at least a week ahead and use the official portal at indianvisaonline.gov.in; the commercial sites ranking above it charge several times the real fee for the same authorisation.

Allow a recovery day in Delhi if you are coming from the west coast — the time difference is punishing and the course starts early.

Three things that apply only to US students
RYT registration is an annual cost, not a one-off
Yoga Alliance charges an initial registration fee plus an annual renewal, and continuing-education hours are required to keep it. Plenty of experienced American teachers let it lapse once they no longer need it to get hired — it is a hiring filter more than a credential.
Nothing about yoga teaching is state-licensed
There is no US state that licenses yoga teachers, so no Indian training needs any form of equivalency or conversion. Some states have regulated yoga schools as vocational institutions, but that governs the school, not you, and not a school located in India.
Liability insurance is the real gatekeeper
US studios and gyms almost universally require proof of liability cover before you teach a class, and the common providers price against RYT-200 status. That, rather than the certificate itself, is what most often makes registration worth the annual fee.
